It is prohibited to send in expressmail items:

  • items which due to their nature or packaging can be dangerous for postal workers, stain or damage other postal items or postal equipment;

  • Narcotic and psychotropic substances;

  • Items which are prohibited to import or circulate in the destination country;

  • Explosive, flammable or otherwise dangerous substances;

  • Pornographic or erotic materials, which describe or depict child sexual exploitation, human sexual activities with animals, necrophilia or pornographic or erotic violence;

  • Animals, except bees, leeches and silkworm larvae.

 

 

General terms and conditions regarding acceptance and dispatch of domestic items:

 

Cabinet of Ministers Regulations No. 445 „Pasta noteikumi” from 21st June of 2005 set the order of forming, addressing and acceptance of postal items and other with postal services related issues which are not regulated by Postal Law. These rules set the order, how postal items are opened, how prohibited or wrongly accepted contents of postal items are confiscated and destroyed or returned to sender.

Manual for acceptance of international postal items summarizes information about prohibited items which cannot be sent with Latvijas Pasts and Eksprespasts as intermediaries.

Rules, regulations and restrictions which must be followed sending a postal item abroad are listed here. The restrictions for postal items are determined by:

 

Universal Postal Union – for all postal items, for example:

  • Narcotic substances;

  • Psychotropic substances

International Air Transport Asociation IATA – regarding transportation of goods in air traffic, for example:

  • Aerosol cans

  • Flammable or magnetized items

Special regulations of each country according to their national laws and regulations.


 

If postal items contain narcotic or psychotropic, explosive, flammable, or otherwise dangerous substances, pornographic or erotic materials, they will be confiscated and destroyed according the order set by the Cabinet of Ministers.

 

If by mistake items which due to their nature or packaging can be dangerous to postal workers or can stain or damage other postal items or postal equipment, items which are restricted to import or circulate in the destination country, or animals except bees, leeches and silkworm larvae are accepted for sending, the postal service provider acts according to rules determined in Postal regulations.
